What does one actually do at Thanksgiving? I keep seeing stuff about it but so far it just seems like a lot of eating food and yelling at family over politics?
Thanksgiving is... complicated. It was started as a festival to recognise how the First Nations people rescued the first pilgrims from starvation when they arrived in the country, but there's a lot issues with land rights and genocide and the rest which came from white colonization. Basically, "thanks for saving us, but we're going to ignore everything we did to you since".
It's also a harvest festival, like they have in Canada, so it was a big feast before the winter makes everything difficult.
Either way, it's an excuse to gather with family, eat turkey and pumpkin pie, and be thankful for the things we have. My dad's on deployment, so I'll be spending mine here at the mansion, if you want someone to sit next to and explain things?
